uring a 3-week residency at Arthur Boyd’s Bundanon, among the weighty landscapes of Australian Modernism, our own program of painting and drawing practice found its way to these wraparound miniature oils on collected cycad seeds. Each responds to being in a certain place at the property (bull paddocks, our studio, a shared freezer, the carpark), inverting and shrinking the surrounding ‘landscape’ into something hand-held and provisional.

Later exhibited as part of the 2010 Members' Exhibition at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art in Sydney, this work takes its title from a poem by David Malouf, The Long View (a slippage from' 'the small words that keep us..'.).
